Current Students:  To get started if you do not currently have an internship lined up,  to update your resume and develop an internship search plan with a career advisor. We recommend starting your internship search at least three months before you plan to begin an internship. You will want to use resources such as , , career fairs and other networking opportunities, the Virtual Internship Series, and your personal network to identify as many possibilities as possible.

If you have already accepted an internship for the upcoming term, report your internship through Experiences on Handshake (making sure to select "Career Development Course" as the template) and email Dr. Heather McIntosh with a copy of your internship offer letter or email.

Students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for participation:
•  Institutional GPA of 2.0 or higher and in good community standing at MGA.
•  Degree-seeking student at MGA for at least one academic semester with the completion
   of at least 12 or more college credits before the internship term and the zero-credit course begins.
•  Must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to register for the course.
•  Declaration of a major.
•  Proof of an internship offer that is not an existing full-time or part-time job. 

***Starting summer 2025, any student completing an internship that is not for academic credit must sign up for the Knights@Work Program at the beginning of that semester in order to receive the cord or get recognition on their transcript.***

Employers:  Employers interested in offering internship opportunities should form by July 1 for fall, November 1 for spring, and March 1 for summer (these are preferred dates).  We are seeking opportunities in all degree programs.

Although many internships are paid, these experiences should also be educational and within a student's area of study.  MGA follows the guidelines for internships set forth by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.  

1. The experience must be an extension of the classroom: a learning experience that provides for applying the knowledge gained in the classroom. It must not be simply to advance the operations of the employer or be the work that a regular employee would routinely perform.
2. The skills or knowledge learned must be transferable to other employment settings.
3. The experience has a defined beginning and end, and a job description with desired qualifications.
4. There are clearly defined learning objectives/goals related to the professional goals of the student's academic coursework.
5. There is supervision by a professional with expertise and educational and/or professional background in the field of the experience.
6. There is routine feedback by the experienced supervisor.
7. There are resources, equipment, and facilities provided by the host employer that support learning objectives/goals.
